Brazilian Carnival Opals COLLECTION

FROM PIAUI, PEDRO II “MINA DA ROCA MINE” IN BRAZIL

In late December of 2006, one of the finest and largest pieces of rough opal ever found in Brazil was discovered. This piece weighed an incredible 186 grams in the rough and contained various layers of color throughout the piece. Found at the mine called Mina Da Roca, in Northern Brazil, it was decided that this piece should not be cut into one large piece, but after careful examination, it should be cut into several unique pieces.

As the "Carnival Event" in Brazil represents the diversity of the different cultures in Brazil, this piece represents the diversity of colors and patterns discovered in Brazilian Opals. Thus the name of this Collection is called the "Carnival Collection". Each piece is unique and diverse, unto itself. From the streaks of lightning orange red color in the 110ct piece, to the red flash behind the green top layer in the 73.74 ct. piece, the wonderful pin fire pattern on the 65.48 ct. piece, with its amazing green fireworks display on the other side. The beautiful 38.41ct. Piece with its wonderful oval shape, and crystalline appearance, and finally, the smallest of the group, the 17.12 ct. pin fire piece, makes this a perfect collection for any opal lover.

This piece was cut by a Brazilian friend of ours, "Juscelino", and took many days of preparation to get the ultimate colors and orientation. He is truly a master at bringing out the best in cutting fine Brazilian Opal. You can see him wearing his Tucson Gem Show T-Shirt, right at the mine where this piece was discovered.

We have been asked by many people to sell individual pieces from this collection, but we feel this treasure should remain as a collection. It could be made into various pieces of Jewelry, for the entire family to choose their favorite pieces or kept as a family heirloom. In the photos, you can see not only the opals, but the rough it came from, and the mine it came from.
