Garnets has a hardness of 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale. This piece of Umbalite Garnet rough from the Umba Valley, Tanzania weighs 17.83 cts and measures 20x13x7mm. This piece has some small veils and would make an excellent Fantasy cut gemstone or Reverse Intaglio carving.
